Region: Saint Helena, Napa | Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon | ABV: 14.5% | Price: $45
Appearance: This striking red blend displays a robust garnet hue, vibrant and clear, showcasing an enthralling core that gently fades to an elegant ruby rim. The depth of color suggests a wine that has aged gracefully. While getting on in years, the wine still shows some strength, but I wouldn't sit on these too much longer if you have one. The tannins have polished out gracefully and this is a smooth drinking Cab which reflects the valley floor terroir.
Nose: A captivating bouquet greets the senses with aromas of baked plum and ripe dark cherries intricately woven with hints of smoky cedar and vanilla. This complex nose evolves with each swirl, revealing whispers of dried herbs and an earthy mineral quality, promising a layered tasting experience ahead.
Palate:
On the palate, the wine unfolds in soft layers. There is a sublime balance of black fruit notes, tobacco notes and definite barrel aging character which comes across the tongue. The tannins are soft yet present, giving structure without overpowering the wine. A warm, lingering finish leaves an impression of caramelized figs, making each sip an inviting experience. The wine generally presents with a medium body and weight.
### Notes
The 2006 Kelham & Sons Red Blend reflects meticulous craftsmanship and a true expression of its terroir. It beautifully bridges the gap between boldness and elegance, creating a harmonious narrative that resonates throughout the tasting journey. With each sip, the wine reveals its depth and character, making it a memorable addition to any collection. Consider exploring more recent vintages to fully experience the best this wine has to offer.
Pairing Suggestions: This wine pairs beautifully with marinated grilled lamb chops, the rich flavors complementing the elderberry notes. Additionally, consider serving it alongside a charcuterie board featuring aged cheeses, dried fruits, and smoky cured meats for a delightful balance of flavors. For a more eclectic pairing, a spiced chocolate torte will echo the wine's chocolate notes and take dessert to new heights.

The 2006 Kelham Sons Red Blend is a full-bodied wine enriched with flavors of dark ripe fruits, hints of oak, and a spicy finish. This complex wine is perfectly complemented by hearty meat dishes. The richness of the wine marries well with the savory, umami flavors of braised short ribs, enhancing the wine's depth and bringing a delightful balance to its tannic structure.
The robust tannins of the red blend soften the rich marbling in short ribs, allowing for a harmonious experience on the palate. The wine's dark fruit notes add a sweet contrast to the umami and savory elements of the braised meat, while oak and spice notes resonate with any herbs or spices used in the dish. Its acidity provides a refreshing counterpoint that cuts through the dish's richness.
